THE ITALIANS PENNETTA SWEEPS SIMONA, VINCI ESCAPES SERENA

NEVER SO MUCH EXCITEMENT AS 2 ITALIAN LADIES TAKE NEW YORK BY A STORM!  THIS WAS NOT PART OF THE SCRIPT!  EVERYONE EXPECTED SERENA TO WALK INTO THE FINALS  WITH JUST 2 MATCHES TO COMPLETE THE CALENDAR SLAM BUT NUMBER 43 IN THE WORLD ROBERTA VINCI TOOK CARE OF THAT WITH A STUNNING UPSET OF WORLD NUMBER ONE SERENA WILLIAMS WHO LEFT THE STADIUM QUICKLY AFTER THE MATCH.   ROBERTA'S 44 APPEARANCE A DOUBLES SPECIALIST AND WOMEN'S  5 TIME DOUBLES GRAND SLAM WINNER ALONG WITH SARA ERANI, AND FIRST TIME SINGLES SEMI FINALIST  AND 32 YEARS OF AGE PLAYED A CLASSIC GAME OF TENNIS.  LOTS OF PRESSURE BUT NOT FOR VINCI WHO PLAYS THE OPPOSITE OF EVERYONE ELSE.  LOTS OF SPINS, SLICE OFF PACE STUFF WHICH CAUSED SERENA TO MAKE 50 ERRORS THOUGH UP 2- IN THE 3RD SERENA BECAME TENSE WHILE ROBERTA ADDED ONE MORE BALL A SLICE HERE AND  WITH A FEW LOBS FORCE SERENA TO COME UP WITH THE GOODS AS HER PATIENCE WORE SERENA DOWN.  WILLIAMS DIALED UP THE USUAL ACES AND SERVED IN THE 120'S BUT VINCI JUST BLOCK IT BACK NOT THREATENED AT ALL.  HER CRAFTY STYLE AND POISE WON THE MATCH.  SHE WON IN 3 SETS 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.  I GUESS SERENA WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE AUSTRLIAN OPEN TO START HER WAY TO ATTEMPT THE CALENDAR SLAM AGAIN..

THE FIRST MATCH SAW SIMONA HALEP NUMBER 2 IN THE WORLD FALL IN 59 MINUTES TO FLAVIA PENNETTA WHO PUMMELED HUGE GROUNDSTROKES ROCKED SIMONA FROM THE START TO WIN EASILY 6-1, 6-3.  SHE IS 33 YEARS OLD THE OLDEST PLAYER IN THE OPEN ERA TO GO TO THE FINALS.  SHE ALSO WENT FAR TO THE SEMI'S IN WOMEN'S DOUBLES THIS YEAR LOSING TO HINGIS /MIRZA.  HALEP JUST WON AGAINST AZARENKA AND LISICKI SO WHO SAW THIS COMING!  THIS IS GREAT BECAUSE FLAVIA WAS PLAQUED WITH INJURIES AND MANY THESE DAYS  OVER 30 ARE PLAYING SUPERBLY AND OUTSTANDING!   SO WE HAVE IT 2 ITALIANS IN THE US OPEN FINAL FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE BIGGEST UPSET OF THE YEAR.  THIS SHOWS YOU THAT NO MATTER WHAT THE AGE IS IF YOU THINK YOU CAN "YOU CAN".  SERENA HAS LED THE WAY FOR A LONG TIME AND GRABBED 3 SLAMS THIS YEAR TOMORROW WE SURELY WILL HAVE AN ITALIAN PLAYER IN THEIR 30'S TO WIN ON US SOIL.
