VENUS THE VETERAN POUNCES ON VANDEWEGHE IN DRAMATIC STYLE

POISED, EXPERIENCE, DYNAMIC ENERGY PLAYED A PART IN THE DISMANTELING OF THE YOUNGER COCO VANDEWEGHE WHO WAS SET TO TAKE OUT A FORMER NUMBER ONE AND AUSTRALIAN OPEN CHAMPION IN 2009 AND 7 TIME GRAND SLAM WINNER JUST AS SHE DID TO ANGELIQUE KERBER AND GARBINE MUGURUZA LIKE THEY WERE NOT EVEN THEIR.  VANDEWEGHE WON THE FIRST SET 7-6(3).  NOW VENUS  THE 36 YEAR OLD NEEDS TO DIG DEEP AS PRESSURE AMOUNTS.  BUT THE COOL CALM AND COLLECTIVE WILLIAMS DUG DEEPER THAN SHE HAS IN 14 YEARS SINCE 2009 TO ATTACK WITH GIANT SERVES CARVING VOLLEYS AND SWINGING AT THEM TO DEFEATING THE CALIFORNIA GIRL 7-6(3),
6-2, 6-4 REACHING HER SECOND FINAL IN MELBOURNE.  SHE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE 13 BREAK POINTS, NEVER SHOWED EMOTIONS, IN THE SECOND SET WON 5 STRAIGHT GAMES FOR A 5-1 LEAD.  THEN HAD A SEVEN MINUTE GAME WITH 4 BREAK POINTS PREVAILED AND AGAIN  BROKE COCO TWICE IN THE THIRD IN A 2 HOUR AND 30 MINUTE DUEL FOR THE TWO AMERICANS.

VENUS BECOMES THE OLDEST GRAND SLAM FINALIST SINCE MARTINA NAVATILOVA AT 1994 WIMBLEDON.  SHE WILL PLAY HER YOUNGER SISTER SERENA WHO IS VYING FOR HER 23 SLAM NOW TYING STEFFI GRAF AT 22.
HEAD TO HEAD SERENA IS 16-11 AGAINST HER BIG SISTER.  THIS WILL NOT BE AN EASY MATCH FOR BOTH THE SEASONED VETERANS WHO SEEM LKE THEY COULD PLAY FOREVER.  THE WAY VENUS IS PLAYING SHE HAS A BETTER CHANCE THAN ANY ONE AS SHE HAS THE BETTER RECORD OF EVERYONE ON THE TOUR.
