KERBER GONE, VENUS, KUZNETSOVA, CRUISE, KVITOVA BACK ON THE SADDLE!

FOR THE FIRST TIME THE NO. 1 PLAYER IN THE WORLD WAS SENT PACKING TO PREPARE FOR THE GRASS IN A FEW WEEKS.  THE UNSEEDED EKATERINA MAKAROVA  DEFEATED ANGELIQUE KERBER 6-2, 6-2 AT ROLAND GARROS. THE EARLIEST EXIT WAS IN THE SECOND ROUND - MOST RECENT SERENA WILLIAMS 2014 AND JUSTINE HENIN IN 2004. SHE IS A TWO TIME SEMI-FINALIST AT GRAND SLAMS AND IS RANKED NO. 40 ON THE TOUR. COULD BE THE MOLE FOR THE TOURNAMENT. TO ME A LOOK A LIKE OF STEFFI GRAF HAMMERED 26 WINNERS AND SERVED AT 73% EVEN BRAKING KERBER'S SERVE 5 TIMES. THE RUSSIAN IS 5-1 AGAINST TOP 10 PLAYERS SO FAR.  ANGELIQUE'S CONFIDENCE IS HURTING HER PLAY. SO MANY ERRORS 25 AND 2 OF 16 ON BREAK POINTS TELLS THE STORY. CLAY COURT IS A DIFFERENT ANIMAL.  YOU HAVE TO BE AGILE, QUICK, THINK FASTER AND RECOVER FAST! AND YOU GOTTA SLIDE THIS KERBER CANNOT DO. IN THIS DAY AND AGE FOR THE NUMBER ONE YOU GOTTA BE A QUICK FORGETTER.

VENUS WILLIAMS HAS PLAYED MORE FRENCH OPENS THAN ANYONE IN HISTORY 20 APPEARANCES. SHE TOUGHED IT UP AS THE 37 YEAR OLD WON AGAINST RISING STAR WANG QIANG 6-4, 7-6 IN AN HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES.  HITTING 37 WINNERS, WINNING A LOT OF POINTS OFF THE SERVE.  VENUS HAS NOT WON THE FRENCH BUT AS EACH DAY BRINGS ANOTHER CHANCE.  SHE HAS AN OPENING WINNING HER 20 APPEARANCE MATCH GIVES HER CONFIDENCE ESPECIALLY WITH VINCI, KERBER GONE.  SISTER SERENA ON MATERNITY LEAVE AND GARBINE THOUGH THE REIGNING CHAMPION AND A THREAT IS NOT PLAYING UP TO STATUS THESE DAYS. TO BE IN THE MIX OF THE POWER GAME THAT SHE AND HER SISTER STARTED YEARS AGO IS AMAZING.  HER MOVEMENT IS WELL, ATTITUDE IS OVER THE TOP, SHE CAN CHANGE DEFENSE INTO OFFENSE AND THIS GIRL IS HUNGRY! EXPECT HER TO GO FAR IF NOT WIN.

KUZNETSOVA THE 2009 FRENCH OPEN WINNER BEAT AMERICAN CHRISTINA MCHALE 7-5, 6-4 IN A MATCH THAT SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS NOT PAYING WELL. THE 8TH SEED LOST TO MCHALE IN TWO OF THEIR PREVIOUS MEETINGS - THEIR LAST MATCH IN 2012.  THOUGHT THE WEATHER WAS HOT THE NERVOUS KUZNETSOVA OUTLASTED MCHALE IN THE TWO HOUR AND 5 MINUTES MATCH WHERE SHE HIT 34 WINNERS AND 32 ERRORS.  NOT WHAT SHE WANTED BUT SHE GOT THE WIN!

PETRA KVITOVA HIT 19 WINNERS IN THE FIRST SET ALONE TO UPEND WORLD NO. 86 JULIA BOSERUP IN THE FIRST ROUND AT ROLAND GARROS. OUT OF THE GAME FOR 6 MONTHS DUE TO A HOME INVASION STABBING IN DECEMBER 2016 PETRA CANNOT EVEN MAKE A FIST AND HAS LITTLE FEELING IN HER HITTING HAND. SHE JUMPED TO A 3-0 LEAD AGAINST JULIA WITH 11 WINNERS IN 15 MINUTES.  JULIA STOPPED KVITOVA'S ATTACK OF THREE BREAK POINTS TO WIN THE FOURTH GAME.  PETRA NAILED 9 ACES AND 31 WINNERS TO SEAL THE DEAL 6-3, 6-2.
